Our Members' Show-and-Tell Gallery

During the Covid lockdown, many of our members were finding ways to be creative. These were shared at our Zoom meetings and on our Facebook page in the Spring of 2021 as the Show-and-Tell Neuro Central Gallery. Here’s another chance to see the inspired and inventive results.

Christmas 2018

Christmas Lunch sponsored by Waitrose

As part of the annual ‘Waitrose at Christmas’ campaign, Neuro Central was selected to receive a special Christmas Lunch hosted by the store.

On Monday 10 December, members and volunteers of Neuro Central enjoyed the occasion at our new premises in Stirling County Cricket Club. We were so pleased to see so many of our members were able to attend. Members from Tayside were bused down from Auchterarder thanks to our volunteer bus driver Graham Jackson who kindly drove the Auchterader Community Bus to the Stirling. It was a great opportunity for all our members from across Forth Valley and Tayside to meet and get to know one another. Staff from Waitrose gave up their free time to prepare and serve the beautiful lunch to the happy diners.

We are extremely grateful for the amazing support we have received from Waitrose since we were established 2½ years ago.

We also received £1,325 as well as the Christmas Lunch, which was a real treat for our members. Thanks to all concerned and, in particular, the Waitrose customers who chose to support us. We would also like to thank Jon Taylor, Manager of Stirling County Cricket Club and his team for helping us settle into our new premises at SCCC and making our Christmas Lunch a great success.

Scottish Health Council

Consultation on the draft General Standards for
Neurological Care and Support

In Autumn 2018, Neuro Central welcomed Derek Blues, Kelly Tulloch, Karen Rankin and Claire Llewellyn (Scottish Health Council) to our Stirling and Auchterarder sessions to enable us to engage our thoughts on the draft General Standards for Neurological Care and Support. Our members were able to give feedback on the care they received leading up to their diagnosis and present standards. This was done in small groups, using an on-line survey and post-it board notes.

Stirling County Cricket Club

Drumming Therapy

Neuro Central getting down to the beat of the drums

Neuro Central offered an opportunity for members to try out drumming at the June 2018 Auchterarder session thanks to
Auchterarder and District Community Trust.
We were inspired!
Drumming is a great workout for your brain. There are many reported positive effects of drumming including: reducing stress and burnout, boosting the immune system, and improving mood. Research shows that the physical transmission of rhythmic energy to the brain actually synchronizes the left and right hemispheres.

Neuro Central members in Auchterarder learned groovy rhythms with Helen Smith-Carmichael from Big Groove and we are planning more practice sessions, thanks to The Co-op Local Funding in Auchterarder. to enable us to drum at the Auchterarder Christmas in the Community Parade on Sunday December 2nd.

Many of our members with various neurological conditions were initially unsure they could do this but, you be the judge. If you belong to our Members Facebook Group, you can also check out this posting from 13 June 2018.

This is thanks to Stirling Council, Community Grants Scheme/Community Pride Fund, Auchterarder Common Goods Fund and The Co-op Local Funding in Auchterarder.

It raised a tremendous £625!

Our First Meeting

Neuro Central got off to a great start with the first drop in session taking place at Bridge of Allan Parish Church, Honeyman Hall on 5 September 2015. A relaxed atmosphere, tea, cakes, good chat, some therapies and an introduction to the people behind the vision got Neuro Central off to a promising start. Early research into the need for Neuro Central was encouraging, providing evidence to back up the vision of a new centre for people who are affected by neurological conditions.

People attending from a wide range of neurological conditions were welcomed and soon found they had common experiences to share. Taster sessions from two therapists were popular, with everyone who wished to receive a therapy having the opportunity to take part. The research carried out at the session provided ideas for the future sessions, including laughter therapy and information sessions. A number of people indicated their interest in being involved in the developments of Neuro Central and a new category ‘Friends of Neuro Central’ received support.

The next session on the 3 October in the same venue is expected to be busy and hopefully will represent and even wider range of neurological conditions as word gets around. The first steps on the journey towards a centre for people with neurological conditions have been positive.
