A Marathon Effort for Neuro Central

Doug Luke, the son of two of our members, kindly offered to raise funds for us by running the Glencoe marathon on Sunday 04 September. This started in Fort William, headed for Kinlochleven, and, after conquering the Devil's Staircase, finished in Glencoe after 26 miles (although it may well have been longer) and a climb of 1,763 metres.

The Glencoe Marathon organisers described the run on the day as 'one of the toughest marathon routes in wild weather...' Nevertheless, Doug completed the course in a little over six hours. Here he is approaching the finishing line.

Many Congratulations on this fantastic effort. And many thanks Doug, and to all your sponsors, from everyone at Neuro Central. So far, you've raised an amazing £1,567 for us! This is well over his target of £1,000.

Forth Valley Royal Hospital Neurology Team’s Sponsored Walk

The neurology team from Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert held a sponsored walk up Dumyat on Saturday 25th June to raise funds for Neuro Central. It was a very blustery but sunny day when they got to the top of Dumyat which is one of the hills in The Ochils above Stirling. The team has done similar walks in the past for Neuro Central and this one has raised £690 so far. This is a fantastic amount and we are extremely grateful for their support.

David Wallace donates £600 to Neuro Central after epic attempt at a Double Ramsay Round

David Wallace wanted to raise £1,500 for Rare Cancers Australia: Helping Eva Menelaws, Scottish Mountain Rescue, and Neuro Central.

David says of Neuro Central: “This charity has provided support for my family in recent years which I'm truly grateful for. I'm delighted to be able to raise some awareness and support for them in return.

Setting out on 25 June 2021, David attempted a Double Ramsay Round. Starting in Fort William, his challenge was to climb 46 Munros within 48 hours. This is a distance of 188 kilometres and an ascent of 17,380 metres (almost the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest twice). As you can see from his blog, he didn’t quite complete his challenge, but he has nevertheless raised more than his target. As a result he has donated £600 to Neuro Central. We are extremely grateful for his support, all those who supported him on his epic journey, and all those who donated. Thank you so much.

Cameron's Epic Ride.jpg

Cameron’s Mammoth Cycle Challenge

After volunteering for Neuro Central with his high school, Cameron Darnbrough from Dunblane decided he wanted to set a challenge to raise money for Neuro Central.
On Monday 12th April 2021, Cameron cycled from his house in Dunblane, up Dumyat and back, 5 times in one day. His plan was to raise £600, but to his and our amazement Cameron managed to raise over £2,000!
The cycle resulted in a total of 125km and a climb of 4,000 metres!
Many thanks to all who supported Cameron throughout the day and also those who donated.
Cameron you are truly amazing, and on behalf of Neuro Central we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This money will go a long way in helping our members with neurological conditions.
